Thornaby FC fans are being urged to turn out in force as they continue a run of consecutive home games over the festive period.
Following an important 2-1 win over Whickham on Saturday and the postponement of Tuesday night’s rearranged visit of Whitley Bay following a pitch inspection, joint managers Craig Skelton and Simon Kasonali are keen to build some consistency at Teesdale Park.
Thornaby hope to carry the momentum from that last victory into a demanding Christmas schedule, which features three more home fixtures starting this Saturday.
The Blues are targeting a climb up the Ebac Northern League Division One table and Newcastle Blue Star make the trip to Teesdale Park (kick-off 3pm).
The festive schedule then ramps up with a huge Boxing Day appearance from West Auckland (KO 11am) before the new year starts with another home fixture against Penrith on Saturday, January 3 (KO 3pm).
Co-boss Kasonali said: “That win against Whickham was exactly the momentum we needed going into this brilliant run of home games.
“It was a blow to have Tuesday’s game postponed but we are playing three further matches on our own turf over the Christmas and New Year period, with this Saturday’s visit of Newcastle Blue Star up next.
“We want to find some real consistency and the best way to do that is with a big home crowd behind us.
“It would be great to see more people come down to Teesdale Park and be our 12th man in the build-up to Christmas and beyond!”
Thornaby returned to winning ways against Whickham last weekend after getting off to an ideal start in the fourth minute through Luke Drummond’s header from a corner.
The score remained 1-0 until the final ten minutes when Kieron Parnaby added a crucial second, slotting the ball into an empty net from distance after a keeper error.
That extra daylight proved critical, as Bailey Adamson pulled one back from the spot for the visitors in the final minute.
The three points secured were big, and now the focus shifts to facing Newcastle Blue Star, West Auckland and Penrith on home turf.
