Thornaby FC are delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Sam Taylor on a loan deal until the end of the season from Shildon AFC.
The highly-rated stopper joins the club following an impressive spell in the Northern League, where he was named Northern League Goalkeeper of the Month for December.
Taylor brings strong experience for his age, having developed through Middlesbrough’s academy before becoming a scholar at Huddersfield Town. During his time there, he gained valuable senior experience on loan at Northallerton Town, earning regular minutes in men’s football.
He later spent eighteen months as a professional at York City, continuing his development before moving to Shildon, where his performances between the sticks caught the eye.
Manager Craig Skelton said:
“We’re really pleased to bring Sam to the club. He’s a young goalkeeper with excellent experience at this level and higher, and he’s shown his quality this season.
He’s hungry to improve, and has all attributes that fit how we want to play.”
On the strength of the goalkeeping department, Skelly continued:
“With a busy run of fixtures ahead and at least one midweek game scheduled most weeks between now and the end of the season, strengthening the goalkeeping department was a priority.
Harry [Conyard]’s commitments with the Pools Academy mean he isn’t available for every midweek fixture, while Yak’s work commitments also affect availability.
When Sam became available, the opportunity to add quality and depth in such a key position was one the club felt made complete sense.”
